Application Useage

The Book Apps application is a desktop application, would be used to keep track of all books and the work or information associated with each book.

Application is developed using Flash Builder 4. AIR is the run time for the application and Zend Amf is used to connect with back end RPC which might be located on a remote server. The client/server architecture of the application distinguish the logic and database access from client presentation. As the run time is compactable with different operating system, it will work on Windows,Macintosh and Linux Systems; and it will be automatically installed when the user downloads the application(if AIR is not present in the system).

How to Use?

System has four kind of users as Employee, Editors, Admin and Super Admin . Admin and Super admin can add/edit/delete system users . Users can log in to the system with their email id as user name and with a default password 'newuser'. User can change his password under Profile section. Book management actions are distributed among the four kind of users. It includes various activities under Book section. User can browse through the book section for more details. Each book has five parts as:

  • Basic information of book
  • Quiz information,
  • Sound Effects/Credit details
  • Animations
  • Screen shots

Basic Info and Quiz Info is managed by Editor and approved by Admin. Sound Effects/Credit details, Animations and screen shots are managed by Employee and Approved by Admin. Admin will approve the entire book if all the sections of book are approved. Approved books will be uploaded to App Store by Super admin, and status will be changed to 'published' in the application (if it get approved from the Apple I store). Above all, the Super Admin has the power to perform all kind of user operations. In order to upload approved books to Apple I store, Super admin can download the associated files of the books.

Message board displayed on various sections,contains messages associated with that section. Different users can communicate among themselves using Message board.

Each part of book is going through different status:

1) Work in progress : - When the user add or update data on the related part of book, that part of the book will be on this status. At this time admin level users are not allowed to add/edit/delete the part. But they can view the data.

2) Submitted for approval : - When the editor or employee submit the book part for approval, it will be on this status. Now the admin can manage the data and approve or reject the part as they need. On this status, the editor/employee can't do anything on the part.

3) Approved : - This state means the part of the book has been approved by admin and no more edits allowed. So users can only view the details of the part.

4) Rejected : - Now the book part is rejected by the admin, so it requires modification or corrections. This can be mentioned on the message board by admin. At this status the admin users are not allowed to perform any actions, but the editor/employee can rework on it.


All Five part of a book is going through all this status until it get approval from the admin. Not only the book parts, but the book also has different status. Until all the book parts get approved, the book will be on 'work in progress' status. When all five book part get approved the book will automatically change to a status 'waiting for final approval'. Then the admin can approve the book.

The approved books can be uploaded to the Apple I store by Super admin. At this time the status can be referred as 'Approved' or 'Waiting for apple approval'. Once the book get approval from Apple, the status will be changed to 'Published'. The admin can re-open the approved books for edits. Then all book parts status will changed to 'work in progress' -to make it editable by the users. The published book can be reopen for upgrades also.

Each book has a game associated with it. It is managed under Games part. Only the employe can add/edit/delete games to the system. Game has the same status structure of book parts, as game is a part of book but not directly. The editor can select a game for the book from book info section. One game can be selected for two books.

The income reports of the published books will be added and updated by Super admin. The details will come under Reports section, which will be implemented to the system soon.

Conclusion

Further work is going on to upload the next build of the application with more advanced features and user friendly interface. For getting the next build, user will be asked for an update while running the application. If she/he wants to update to the latest version, just a mouse click is enough. You will have the latest build on your desktop.
